How Much Does Human Error Cost Your Company?

Human error

Who Knows the Cost of Human Error

If your company has a major accident, the board of directors will know the cost of human error.

However, human error happens every day. The cost of small incidents and mid-size accidents can add up to billions of dollars in waste, injuries, and warranty costs. How much waste due to human error does your company have? Does anyone keep track?

How Much Should You Invest in Stopping Human Error?

How can you know how much you should invest in stopping human error if you don’t know how much human error costs?

Do you track the costs of:

  • Safety Incidents
  • Production Problems
  • Quality Issues
  • Environmental Accidents and Fines
  • Equipment Failures

Then, simply add up these costs and assume that 80% of the costs are due to human error. This will be an underestimate, but it is a good starting place – call it an educated guess.

Thinking Person

Now, would you like to cut these unnecessary costs? Shouldn’t somebody be designing a program to improve human performance across all the functions of your company? If you have a program, isn’t it time to make it better? Someone should get started now!

One thing is for sure: if you are worried about human error, you should attend the upcoming Stopping Human Error Course and the Human Performance Best Practices Track at the 2025 Global TapRooT® Summit. Read on about how this course (being held on September 29-30) and the Summit (being held on October 1-3) can help. Both the course and the Summit are being held in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Stopping Human Error Corse

The Stopping Human Error Course will help you understand why human error occurs and the best practices you can implement to make human action much more reliable. The goal of the course is for you to return to work with a prioritized list of best practices to implement to make a major improvement in human performance at your company.
