Should Companies Still Be Talking About Finding a “Single” Root Cause?

A quote from the story:

“‘We may never get to the single root cause,’ of what happened in the two incidents that led to the two-month-long global grounding of its flagship jet, Mike Sinnett, the head of the Boeing 787 program, said at a Tokyo news conference…”

The question is … Should any company be looking for a single root cause? Shouldn’t we be beyond that?
