How far away is death? PPE up to date?

PPE

PPE (personal protective equipment) is called the “last resort” because it literally stands between you and life and death on the job.

When all other safeguards have failed, your PPE can save your life, but how up to date is it, does it fit properly, and is it comfortable? Do you have a PPE program?

Also, the worklife of your PPE depends on how it is cared for, where and how it is stored, and, of course, how it is used on the job.

Ideally, PPE can be expected to have the following use life.

  • Work boots have a 6-12 month worklife expectancy;
  • Ear protectors and hard hats can last up to 5 years;
  • Eye protection can have a 3-year wearlife.
