TRIR Success Story from a TapRooT® SuperUser

TapRooT® SuperUser

One of the best parts of my job is to encourage collaboration among our TapRooT® clients. Each quarter, I host a web meeting where 3 volunteers across the TapRooT® SuperUser Community share one of these 3 things:

A Best Practice: A volunteer shares a method or approach that’s worked well for them and their organization. The TapRooT® SuperUsers can ask questions and see if it’s something they could adopt in their own organization to improve their program and results.

A Challenge:
A volunteer shares a challenge they’re facing.  The meeting provides a safe space to discuss sensitive issues and receive help from a larger group of TapRooT® SuperUsers. The goal is to help members overcome obstacles with guidance and solutions from peers who may have faced the same issue.  We don’t record meetings for privacy.

A Success Story: A volunteer shares a recent success story. The group can ask questions to understand what made it work and explore ways to replicate it in their own organization.

The SuperUser Group is all about learning from each other, sharing insights, and building a supportive TapRooT® RCA peer network.  It’s extremely valuable for people new to TapRooT® RCA.  It shortens the learning curve considerably.

At the last meeting, one of our TapRooT® SuperUsers presented their TRIR metrics since their TapRooT® RCA implementation. They told their story of implementing the program, how they began to mature the program as they tracked results and talked to their people, and the benefits they now see. I’ve had the privilege of training about 70 of their team members in the Virtual 3-Day TapRooT® Essentials.

During the presentation, the Vice President, Health, Safety & Fleet Compliance gave full credit to their Director of Health & Safety for spearheading the TapRooT® RCA initiative. But as everyone knows, if you don’t have the support and trust of leadership, things are really hard. So kudos to the Health and Safety team, and to every individual who championed TapRooT® RCA.

Here is a sliver of information they presented:

Their TRIR steadily declined after implementing TapRooT® RCA. By fully adopting the TapRooT® Methodology and RCA tools, they identified system gaps and strengthened them with effective, human performance–based corrective actions. When the focus shifted from retraining, adding rules, and applying discipline to corrective actions that improved the systems supporting the workforce, many problems began to disappear.

They also benchmarked themselves against other organizations in their industry. As you can see, they separated themselves after implementing TapRooT® RCA. The impact was soon, certain, and positive!

If you would like to learn more about TapRooT® RCA, please let us know. I will be happy to set up a web meeting to discuss our Incident Investigation and RCA Methodology and tools, and break down our training options. You can email me at marcus@taproot.com. Or visit our website to find a public course near you.
