Here are the five outstanding Keynote Speakers…

U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant (Retired) Kirstie Ennis

The closing Keynote Speaker is Kirstie Innis. While serving in Afghanistan as a CH-53D door gunner, the chopper she was on crashed resulting in damaging her leg (which she would eventually lose) as well as suffering a torn rotator cuff and labrum, injured cervical discs, a shattered jaw, severe facial lacerations, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

She was forced into medical retirement from the Marine Corps but wasn’t done helping people. She decided to help raise funds for nonprofits and founded the Kirstie Ennis Foundation.

As part of Kirstie’s fundraising efforts, she has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Carstensz, Iliza Norte, Elbrus, Aconcagua, Cotopaxi, Vinson Massif in Antarctica, and the South Summit of Everest. In addition, she has attempted to climb the peak of Everest and Denali. Also, she walked 1000 miles to support the charity Walking with the Wounded.

As you can imagine, Kirstie doesn’t accept limitations and she will inspire you to overcome and achieve!

Vice Admiral (Retired) Joseph Aucoin

Admiral Joseph Aucoin is a Top Gun trained US Navy veteran who has flown more than 150 combat missions in support of joint operations in Iraq, Kuwait, Bosnia, and Kosovo. He accumulated over 4,700 flight hours and more than 1,300 carrier-arrested landings. His personal awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross with “V” (for valor), and the Bronze Star.

Admiral Aucoin was Commander of the 7th Fleet when the collisions between commercial ships and the USS Fitzgerald and the USS John S. McCain occurred. Although he had warned his superiors about understaffing, maintenance issues, and training issues, the 7th Fleet operations tempo continued to soar to accomplish missions assigned from Washington.

Admiral Aucoin had warned those above him about the risks of asking too much from too few. He personally rejected missions just to be overruled and ordered to get ships underway.

As the closing Keynote Speaker on Day 2 of the Summit, you can hear his story and learn lessons about what happens when senior managers ask too much from the people on the front lines. This is a story that every senior manager needs to consider and that everyone concerned about preventing accidents should consider.

Claus Rose

Claus Rose is EHS and Business Continuity Management Vice President for GE Renewable Energy.

Claus is the opening Keynote Speaker on Day 2 of the Summit and will provide practical insight about what senior managers want (or at least should want) from root cause analysis. Take these lessons back to your company to discuss among your company’s senior management.

Ken Futch

Ken Futch is a great storyteller and you’ve never heard a story quite like the one that he tells. As he explains, he now has much more empathy for people who make stupid mistakes.
