The TapRooT® Course Experience

My Course Experience

In the last few weeks, I have gotten the opportunity to take both the 3-Day Virtual Course and the 5-Day Course with TapRooT® RCA, and it has been quite a wonderful experience. Here are a few of my thoughts on the benefits of each course experience, and how a course-taker can get the most out of their time with TapRooT®.

3-Day Virtual

Our 3-Day Virtual course is software focused, training the course-takers in the technical side of TapRooT® RCA first and foremost. Being over Zoom and having highly technical content, I expected it to be very difficult to grasp all of the functionality the TapRooT® Software has to offer, but I was pleasantly surprised by the ways the course structure works to prevent these issues.

There were lots of breaks to accommodate for fatigue after bursts of information, and lots of quizzes to ensure that the information stuck. Considering the fact that we promote adequate breaks as a solution to fatigue, I was charmed by the dedication to practicing what we preach. The instructor, Alex, was very patient with everyone who was unfamiliar with technology and helped them through the process in a personalized way that is difficult to find in virtual courses.

One of the most effective aspects of the course was the presence of group work, giving you the opportunity to both practice and explain the process to other people who have grasped a variety of different concepts at different levels of strength. Without the high stakes of an ongoing investigation, the pace of group work is patient and meandering, allowing course-takers to make mistakes and learn from them with Alex’s professional guidance before they take their knowledge into the field.

5-Day In-Person

Despite all the benefits of the 3-Day Virtual, the 5-Day In-Person course was by far my favorite way to be trained. Sitting in a classroom, you gain the ability to make interesting connections in your field during lunch, breaks, and group projects. Several more people asked questions in this course, no doubt due to technical difficulties being eased, and it was generally a more high energy environment.

I was surprised by how many people were there out of genuine interest and love for good RCA, rather than seeing the course as merely another requirement. I got to hear a number of stories about investigations gone wrong, inspiring the course-takers to find a better way to investigate. At the beginning, there were a lot of questions as to what, exactly, made TapRooT® RCA better than other RCA methods they’d been taught in the past; but by the end of the course, their questions seemed to have been answered, and everyone seemed very enthusiastic about the system.

At one point, we practiced interviewing for an investigation, which I think everyone seemed to find as interesting as I did. A lot of people expressed their frustration with past interviews, their eagerness to learn a better way to conduct them, and an enjoyment with the way that Alex was instructing this part of the course.

One of the clearest takeaways from the course, in my experience, was that TapRooT® RCA saves time without sacrificing expertise. Our software makes the knowledge of human engineering experts, engineers, and safety specialists readily available with the answering of a few simple questions. Trying to learn each thing that the Corrective Action Helper® Guide includes on its own would take years of schooling and industry development: but with our program, it is all available in less than a week.
