Why Did I Decide to Write About Cyber Security Now?

First, it is a topic of recent great importance. I read several articles about cyber security threats related to the war in Ukraine and other hacker-related attacks on the infrastructure.

Obviously, these attacks could cause great economic damage and even be life-threatening power and utility service outages. Imagine last years electrical outages in Texas multiplied by 10.

Second, I read an article about human error and software incidents (The Need to Decouple Human Error from Incident Response) based on a talk given at a 2022 conference (“KubeCon + CloudNativeCon – Europe 2022” held in Valencia, Spain) and realized that much of the recent discussion about improving investigations relates back to work we did back in the 1980s and 1990s.
