I know you might still ask:

What are some activities, tourist attractions, and great places to eat in or near Knoxville?

Let’s start with a post about great places to eat in the evening when you are downtown.

Great Places to Eat in Downtown Knoxville

What are some great places to eat from the 90 restaurants within walking distance in downtown Knoxville? Read on for my suggestions in no particular order.

LILOU BRASSERIE

Lilou French Dining – My wife’s favorite place for a fancy dinner. The menu varies but seems always to have the Steak Frites (ribeye) with duck-fat fries. Order it with a side of Foie Gras.

Bistro at the Bijou – Enjoy great food and some jazz. Here is the MENU and the JAZZ schedule.

Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar – It varies with the seasons but I like these when available: spiced pumpkin bisque, buttermilk fried chicken, tupelo shrimp and grits, sweet & spicy fried chicken, and classic chicken and waffles. Try to save room for dessert: Mississippi Mud Pie or Brown Butter Pecan Pie, or Heavenly Banana Pudding.

A Dopo – Some say this is the best Pizza in Knoxville. And it’s received rave reviews that rate it some of the best in the USA. If you like wood-fired, sourdough pizza … give it a try and tell me what you think. HERE is the menu.

Emilia – Homemade Italian in downtown Knoxville? Try the House Pulled Fresh Mozzarella, the Steamed PEI Mussels, Polenta and Meatballs Pomodoro, and Pork Milanese. Read the menu and you will have a hard time deciding which dishes to order.

J.C. Holdway – The restaurant uses wood-fire techniques in an old-world way inspired by the ways of rural Appalachia before today’s modern conveniences were available. See the menu HERE and try these: Smoked Fish Dip, Roasted Diver Scallops, Mafaldine, Roasted Chicken, or Grilled Prime Ribeye. Save room for a Peanut Butter Tart with campfire ice cream & peanut brittle.

Lonesome Dove – This is one of three Lonesome Dove Restaurants. The others are in Texas. It features Western and Knoxville-inspired dishes. Try these: Elk Sliders, Blue Corn-Lobster Hushpuppies, Wood Fired Gulf Coast Oysters, Buffalo Ribeye, Redfish en Papillote, Idaho Rainbow Trout, or Sweet Potato Succotash-Chile Relleno.

Calhoun’s on the River – Great casual dining highlighting barbecue, ribs, and other southern comfort food. HERE is the menu.

Kabuki Japanese Restaurant & Sushi – My favorites? The Crab Salad, Shrimp Tempura, the Kabuki Roll, and the Las Vegas Roll. I also like the Triple Sashimi. The secret about Kabuki’s is that I’ve never had to wait for a seat (they always seem to have an opening).

Soccer Taco – Great Mexican food at a reasonable price. My favorites are Shrimp Rellenos, Enchiladas Cowboys, and, of course, any of the Fajitas.

Oliver Royale – A small restaurant with great food. It always seems crowded, but if you can get in, try the Confit Duck Pappardelle, the Confit Short Rib, or the Pan Roasted Chicken Breast. Also, they have a great drink menu.
