Error: "The TapRooTŪ System Software is experiencing trouble accessing its data..."

When opening the TapRooT® System Software, you may see the blue background open and then after a few seconds receive the error below:

The TapRooT® System Software is experiencing trouble accessing its data in the following location:

Server/Instance Name: (local)\TAPROOT
Database: TapRooT

Please verify that the name of the server and instance displayed in the SQL Server Service Manager is the same as the one listed above.

This is typically a result of the Microsoft Database Engine (MSDE) not being removed when performing an uninstallation of the TapRooT® System Software.

Here are the steps to resolve this issue:

1) Go into Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs and look for "Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (TAPROOT)"  If it is there, you want to uninstall it.  If not, go directly to step 2

2) Open the C:\Program Files folder for a folder named [MS SQL Server].  Open the folder and delete the folder [MSSQL$TAPROOT]

3) Empty the Recycle Bin

4) Go to C:\Program Files\TapRooT and run the Reset TapRooT Registry Key.reg file again and then try to open the software.

5) Open the TapRooT® program and it will successfully install MSDE and allow you to finish the TapRooT® software installation.
