How Do I Install the MHS 4.1.0 Software?

For Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you must log into your local Administrator account to perform these steps:
  1. Exit any other programs that are currently running.
  2. In the [v4.1.0 MHS TapRooT Software] folder provided on the CD, select Setup1.exe by double-clicking to initiate the install.

It may take up to 30 seconds before you see activity on the screen. Follow the installer screens to:
     • Accept the software license agreement.
     • Enter your name and your organization's name.
     • Select if the program shortcuts should be created for all users on the computer      • (recommended) or only the current user.
     • Select the folder where the program will be installed. The default location is   • [C:\Program Files\TapRooT] (Recommended)
     • Follow prompts to complete the installation
WARNING: Do NOT run the application until Setup2.exe has been executed.
  3. In the v4.1.0 MHS TapRooT Software folder provided on the CD select Setup2.exe by double-clicking to initiate the install. It may take up to 30 seconds before you see activity on the screen. Follow the default install path as shown below:
     • Select [NEXT] on the welcome screen to continue with the installation      • Select the Destination Folder, needs to be the same as the Destination Folder
selected during Setup 1 above. Select [NEXT]
     • On the final screen check the box to launch the application. This will take you to the configuration process for the MHS TapRooT® Software.

Configuring the Software
For Windows 2000 and Windows XP, you must be logged into a local Administrator account to perform these steps. Start the TapRooT® System Software. A shortcut to the software is placed on your desktop.
The first step in configuring the software is to provide your software serial number. The serial number is usually located on the letter you received with your software installation CD.

   • If you do not have the licensed serial number from your system administrator, you can continue without entering a serial number, using the default demo number automatically populated. Note that you can always convert a demo installation to a purchased installation at a future date by entering the serial number (provided with the license CD) at that time. You will not need to uninstall and reinstall the software to activate it permanently.

Install the Database Engine
The Database Engine Installation window should appear next. In order for the software to
function, a separate database engine must be installed on your PC.

You must create an administrator password in order to install the database engine (MSDE). This password prevents unauthorized users from connecting to the database on your PC.

This password does not need to match any other password that is used on your PC. The password must be at least six characters and not more than 10 characters in length. The letters A - Z and digits 0 - 9 are allowed. This password will be pre-filled in the next step when the database is installed.

Enter the password in the Password and Confirm Password fields. The password is masked.  You must enter it twice to confirm that it is entered correctly. Press OK to install the database engine.

Once completed the progress screen will disappear. If this window closes and there are no error messages on your screen, the MSDE installation was successful. Installation may take up to 2 minutes.

NOTE: This part of the installation will fail and roll backwards (from right to left) if the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks service is not installed and running on your PC. Go to your Network Connections / Local Area connection, right click and select Properties, and look for this item on the General tab. Install this service if necessary. This is only a requirement for installing the database engine. It can be removed after installation is complete.

  Install the TapRooT® Database

Start the TapRooT® System Software again using the desktop icon. The
Initialize TapRooT® Database window should appear next.

The password was stored on your computer during the previous step, and it will appear in the field automatically.

For Single User installations, you can ignore the Instance Name field. Press OK to install the database into the database engine.

You should see the message "Restoring blank database" on this screen. This may take up to 1 minute. You will see a message that says the database was installed successfully.
